Wound Care Nursing Jobs

Nurses who specialize in wound care are a much sought after commodity in the field of nursing, and it is possible to become certified in wound care. These nurses may see compromises in skin integrity that may be healed within days to a year or more. Wound care nurses may coordinate bedside nursing care, physical and occupational therapy and nutritional therapy. These nurses may also be involved in information gathering for studies and research. Nurses will learn the four stages of wound grading and techniques of wound dressings, including wound vacs and drains. Nurses must be sensitive to their patients emotional and physical needs as patients can become emotionally distraught if their wound is disfiguring and visible to the public. Counseling sessions with the family and patient can be expected. Wound care nurses may also work on the burn unit of a hospital. This is a subspecialty of wound care, and certification in burn care is possible.
