Rehabilitation Nursing Jobs

Nurses who specialize in rehabilitation may do so in hospital settings or clinics. Drug rehab, physical rehab and cardiac rehab are some of the more common areas in which nurses are involved. Drug rehabilitation is closely related to psychiatric nursing. Nurses will run groups, make recommendations to the doctor for medication adjustment and counsel family members. Physical rehabilitation may involve coordination of care with the physical and occupational therapists. Nurses frequently perform range of motion exercises, gait assessment and ensure adequate control of pain levels before physical activity. Cardiac rehabilitation nurses develop a plan of rehab for post open-heart surgery patients and patients with compromised ejection fractions. Cardiac rehab patients may see the nurse a few times a week to be led through aerobic exercises befitting the patient's abilities. While a patient performs exercises, they are placed on a monitor and a printout is generated to demonstrate the heart's reaction to various degrees of oxygen demand.
