Postpartum Nursing Jobs

Nurses in this area are certified in BLS (Basic Life Support, at the Provider Level), and sometimes PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support). Postpartum unit nurses care for the mothers post-childbirth. The subtle art of "disappearing" while providing nursing care is an important aspect of this area of nursing. Mothers and families will want time with the baby, and nurses should provide their care in an efficient and timely manner and allow bonding time for the family. Nurses will focus more of their time on mothers recovering from difficult childbirth and those mothers having caesarean sections. Mothers may be challenged with their own healing and bonding with their infant must be encouraged. Young single mothers may also present a challenge to the nursing staff, as the new mother may be intimidated by her new role and family issues. The nurse in this area of nursing should expect to provide much counseling to new mother patients and their families.
