Pediatric Nursing Jobs
Pediatric nurses care for any child from the infant to the 18-year old. Pediatric nurses are certified in BLS (Basic Life Support, at the Provider Level) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and sometimes ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support). Pediatric units of larger hospitals are broken down into appropriate age-range groups, which enables a greater deal of specialization for the nurse. Nurses on this unit must possess the ability to care effectively and calmly for a crying infant and a demanding and nervous teenager. The ability to work with, and relate to, children of all ages is required. Nurses may be challenged by family issues such as parental custody and conflicting ideas of the patient's care. Nurses on this unit will see a variety of childhood diseases, routine surgeries and many times heartbreaking cases of cancer in their young patients. This unit is frequently a lock-down unit of the hospital to prevent unauthorized visitors and staff.
