Orthopedic Nursing Jobs
An orthopedic unit is a good place for new graduate nurses to begin their career. Focused on all aspects of orthopedic care, nurses will be involved with patients having musculoskeletal disorders including arthritis, skeletal deformation, bone fracture, post op pain and deterioration. Orthopedic nurses enjoy a close working relationship with an interdisciplinary team of physical and occupational therapists as well as social workers and physicians. These units are typically found in hospitals with follow-up visits to the doctor's office or orthopedic clinics. Nurses in this specialty enjoy a great deal of autonomy and must have excellent coordination skills for all members of the interdisciplinary team. BLS certification is required. This position can be an in-house, 24/7 job or Monday through Friday, normal business hours out-patient position. The clientele ranges from children to adults, with a heavy focus on the elderly. Physical stamina is important in this specialty as nurses may be called upon to assist patients in weight bearing exercises.
