Legal Nursing Jobs
Registered nurses employed as Legal Nurse Consultants have completed a training program for this specialty or are experienced paralegals. Some LNCs have also gone as far as law school, but do not practice law. These nurses are most typically employed by law firms to review charts and medical data for possible negligence and future chart actions. Many times these nurses are called into court as expert witnesses and can command quite a high salary for their testimony. Clinical experience is required in this position. Registered nurses must be able to read charts and have thorough knowledge of typical care plans. Strong knowledge of lab values, DRGs (diagnostic related groups), medications and general medical procedures are required. The two most litigious areas in medicine are Labor & Delivery and the OR. Nurses in these specialties may have an easier time securing a position as an LNC than other nurses. This is a day shift position, Monday through Friday; business attire is required. Many LNCs are independent contractors and work primarily from their home.
