ER Nursing Jobs

Nurses working in the Emergency Room are certified in BLS (Basic Life Support, at the Provider Level), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). Nurses in the ER must possess the ability to quickly assess, analyze and expertly triage their patients in order to give the most critical patients priority over less life-threatening situations. The ER nurse must have a strong personality to be an effective clinician with the diverse population coming into the ER. Nurses will see a variety of illnesses and patient backgrounds. The ER nurse must be well-organized individuals as they will move quickly from patient to patient. ERs are fast-paced and noisy most of the time and nurses work under what can be extremely stressful conditions. Most ERs have a security officer on duty to deal with the sometimes dangerous situations such as gang members, drug abusers and alcoholics, and a nurse should be comfortable asking for help when needed.
