CVICU Nursing Jobs

Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit nurses are certified in BLS (Basic Life Support, at the Provider Level) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support). It is also possible and recommended that nurses be certified as CCRNs (Critical Care Registered Nurses). These nurses care for patients who are post heart surgery patients. When a patient arrives from the cardiovascular operating room, nurses are assigned to the patient on a 1:1 basis. Nurses stay with the patient for several hours until the monitors and nursing assessment establishes that the patient is in stable condition. Nurses will be running several IV medications simultaneously and must have a thorough knowledge of critical assessment. It may become necessary for patients to return to the OR at any moment, and the CVICU nurse will be required to call the OR team back to the hospital. Nurses in this unit must limit family members' access to the patient and possess a strong quality of advocacy for their patients.
