Clinical Research nurses most often have their Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing or frequently, their Ph.D. Nurses in this area may be part of local, national or international studies. It is important that a nurse have an excellent understanding of statistical analysis and fact gathering. Nurses may formulate studies, apply for study grant monies and coordinate the study from the point of the bedside gathering of statistics to the end report and publishing of findings to national or international committees. Clinical research nurses are leaders. Strong presentation skills and public speaking skills are required, as nurses must present themselves as respected and professional representatives of the field of nursing. Clinical research nurses have the power to effectively change the manner in which bedside nursing is performed, as well as affect which new drugs are used to treat illness and disease. Clinical research nurses may work in hospital settings, laboratories or universities.
