Antepartum Nursing Jobs

Ante-Partum nurses care for pregnant woman who are at high risk for pregnancy complications due to medical disorders and diseases which may be chronic or acute. These nurses may be found in doctor's offices as well as hospitals. The ante-partum nurse will typically see the patient at the week 24 or later time frame in a pregnancy. This nurse may conduct electronic fetal monitoring which monitors the fetal heart rate and perform ultrasounds. The nurse looks for placental abnormalities, hypertension, proper fetal growth, signs of gestational diabetes and amniotic fluid sufficiency. The ante-partum nurse works closely with the patient's doctors to ensure that all adequate testing is done pre-delivery to guarantee a health mother and fetus. Weekly visits for electronic fetal monitoring are common toward the end of the pregnancy, and the ante-partum nurse must possess excellent mother and fetus assessment skills. The Ante-partum nurse's position is a day shift, Monday through Friday job, with possible Saturday office hours.
